Back to School BBQ: Celebrating Connection

Last Thursday, our community came together for one of our favorite traditions of the year: our Annual Back to School BBQ. As summer begins to wind down and a new school year gets underway, we had the opportunity to pause, gather, and celebrate the people who make our community so special.

We are forever grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make the day such a memorable one. From the moment guests arrived, there was an undeniable sense of excitement, connection, and joy in the air. It was a wonderful reminder that sometimes the simplest gatherings—sharing a meal, playing a game, laughing together, and catching up with old friends—can create some of the most meaningful moments.

This year, we added a little extra fun with our Grease-inspired 1950s theme, and our community truly embraced it! We were thrilled to see so many people getting into the spirit, bringing their own creativity and personality to the celebration.

The retro theme gave everyone another reason to smile, laugh, and enjoy the afternoon together. Everyone enjoyed classic favorites like hamburgers and hot dogs, creating the perfect backdrop for an afternoon of conversation and connection.

But while the food and back to school supply giveaway brought us together, it was the conversations that made the gathering truly special. People had the chance to reconnect with familiar faces, meet new members of the community, and simply spend time together outside of the usual routines of daily life.

The fun continued with a lively game of bingo, bringing plenty of smiles, friendly competition, and laughter to the day. Whether someone was hoping to call out “Bingo!” or simply enjoying the excitement of the game, it was another opportunity for everyone to participate and enjoy being together.

For us as a nonprofit, these moments matter deeply. Building a strong community isn't only about the programs and services we provide—it is also about creating spaces where people feel welcomed, valued, and connected.
